Hello!
I have a problem with BOXCRYPTOR. When I'm on PC1 copy the files into a folder such as boxcryptor/Work/Mail/Inbox/XXXCompany/Letter1.doc they are copied properly and on PC1 file Letter1.doc is available. On PC2 folder XXXCompany empty. Upon entering through the iPhone this folder is empty too, while all the folders boxcryptor/Work/Mail/Inbox/XXXCompany/ is available. but the folder XXXCompany empty.. What do you think about this?

Hello
it seems there is a conflict with the .encfs6.xml file which contains encrypted information about how to encrypt the files of your source directory. So I recommend you to reconfigure your Systems:
1. Make a backup of your files on your HDD on PC1
2. Delete your BoxCryptor source directory and wait until everything is synched
3. Create a new source directory which can be named like the old one
4. Go to BoxCryptor preferences on PC1 and set up your new source directory
5. Wait until everything is synched on the other devices (especially the .encfs6.xml file has to be synched!)
6. Now set up BoxCryptor on the other devices
Your files should be now visible and automatically synched on all your devices.
Best regards

All done. Does not work.
Conducted an experiment:
On PC1 created several folders:
(S)BoxCryptor->Folder1->Folder2->Folder3->Folder4->Folder5->Folder6->Folder7(with 1 file)->Folder8->Folder9(with 1 file)->Folder10(with 1 file)On iPhone I see:
Folder1->Folder2->Folder3->Folder4->"Folder is empty"?
encfs6 file is synchronized
On PC1 (dropbox folder): encfs6.xml (11.01.2012 13:26)
On iPhone (Dropbox app): encfs6.xml (11.01.2012 13:26)The date and time are the same.

I think that I understand what the problem is. Case in cyrillic.
When folder name written in latin letters (Folder1, Folder2 etc.)it's all right, but when I write cyrillic (новая папка1, новая папка2 etc.) - "Houston, we have a problem.." some of the folders disappear..
On PC1:
(S)BoxCryptor/Folder1/Folder2/Folder3/Folder4/Folder5/Folder6/Folder7/Folder8/Folder9/Folder10
(S)BoxCryptor/Папка1/Папка2/Папка3/Папка4/Папка5/Папка6/Папка7/Папка8/Папка9/Папка10/On iOS and PC2:
(S)BoxCryptor/Folder1/Folder2/Folder3/Folder4/Folder5/Folder6/Folder7/Folder8/Folder9/Folder10
(S)BoxCryptor/Папка1/Папка2/Папка3/Папка4/Папка5/Папка6/Папка7/Папка8/"Folder is empty"very sorry...

Thank you for your report and your findings. I'll investigate this issue.

Hi yaolegk,
I just investigated your issue and to me the problem sounds like a Dropbox problem. BoxCryptor supports path length up to 32.000 characters. Most other Windows applications (like Windows Explorer and apparently Dropbox) only support path lengths up to 256 characters.
This means, BoxCryptor can create files and folders which Dropbox can not "see" when their paths contain more than 256 characters and thus can not sync these files and folders. That's why you don't see them on your iPhone and PC2.
The only solution for this Dropbox problem is to not use such a deep folder structure and/or shorter file and folder names.

Hello.
I'm sorry that I pick up an old topic, but the problem remains.
I create in "Dropbox" folder structure. "Dropbox" sees the depth and synchronizes them between devices (PC1, PC2 and iOS - sees full structure), but when I copy THIS structure in Boxcryptor - part of the structure is cut on other devices.
Let me remind you that the name of the folder it is written cyrillic.
Problem is not in Dropbox..Posted 2 months ago # -
Sent in support the illustration of the problem..

Is there any news on the topic? The problem remains and creates a lot of problems when using.

Hi Oleg,
if you copy this structure to the BoxCryptor drive, the paths of the encrypted files are even longer than in the plaintext structure:
1) The path of the encrypted folder is prefixed (e.g. C:\Users\Oleg\Dropbox\BoxCryptor)
2) Encrypted filenames are longer than plaintext filenamesSo, please check in the BoxCryptor website if really all encrypted files are synced by Dropbox. I still think this problem is caused by too long (encrypted) file paths (>256 characters) for the Dropbox program.

Dropbox accurately sync all encrypted folders and this can be seen in the screenshot, which I sent in service support.
Screenshot shows that the file in the encrypted form is located in the dropbox folder, but it is not in the Boxcryptor.
I think that if the problem had been in the dropbox, we would not have observed the file in an encrypted form in the dropbox folder at all synchronized devices, but in an encrypted form he is there.
In encrypted form it is available on all devices, and in the not encrypted it is not.I'm sorry that so many ask questions, but I would like to understand and use the program in full ;)
Thank you for your work!)P.S. Encrypted files locate at C:\Dropbox\Personal

Please check the Dropbox website if the files are really synced. I just tested it again and even though Dropbox on Windows shows the files as synced, they are not as the Dropbox website shows. ("Dieser Ordner ist leer" means "This folder is empty")

You are absolutely right!
256 characters were the cause of the problem.. On the site folder is really empty. Now I understand when there is a problem and will be able to avoid it.
It was a very informative conversation and I am very grateful to you for your patience)Posted 2 months ago #
